Re: Red Dexter black nose

Hi Charlie Thats an interesting one, I too checked breed standard on reds ref the black nose/feet question. Many years ago a red cow with black nose & feet regularly won in the show ring, and I've also seen cows with totally cream tails win too! Nowadays all reds in the show ring seem to have pi...

Re: Bovine T.B - Have you seen this film

Hi Rachael

Oooh eer wot a difference a typo makes. Me thinks we need more than a few Farmer fairies, at least a large friendly fairy godmother or perhaps a genie with a lamp? Just sent the wife down the garden to look, in case I missed 'em :)

Take care
Steve.

Re: Bovine T.B - Have you seen this film

Hi Rachael The TB fiasco has been going on a great deal longer than a year! :? We had our first animals taken as reactors in December 2000 as a result of our routine annual test (we are in a 1 year testing parish) & it was a most traumatic experience. We have subsequently been under TB restricti...

Re: New rules for TB at shows

All well and good if your annual test falls near a show. We worked it out and in order to do the shows our animals would have to be tested three times a year. They become nervous wrecks - every time they see a stranger i.e a judge they think they are going to jab them. Jac how I agree. Our cattle a...

Re: Roundhouse Cattle Building

I think there is a guy in Northern Ireland that houses his dexters like this. I believe people attending the AGM last year visited him. I'm sure the Northern Ireland group would be able to supply his name.

We reckon it includes marquees, Colin  , so that probably means breed exhibitions as well.

Re: New rules for TB at shows

Have I read it correctly, is it just stock from "high risk" areas that have to be pre-movement tested for shows of more than 24hrs or housed under cover? As you stated Mark, yet more costs!! :? We, in "high risk areas" through no fault of our own, already have all the pre-movemen...

Re: Cow not in calf, does it mean the end?

Clive, Snorter dwarfism was rife in Aberdeen Angus in USA in 1940/50's & various articles report that the problem was perpetuated by breeders in line breeding to get short, chunky attractively dished faced cattle. As I understand it both parents have to be carriers for the problem to occur, ple...

Re: Linear Classification Open Day Stratford

As a participant in Sunday's classification event, I have to say it was nerve racking when our animals were done!! Worse than showing, the other half thought :? However once that bit was over & done with, we found it most interesting, with some surprising results. Andrew Spicer, the Inspector &...

Re: Rare Breed Sale at Stoneleigh

I agree Ann it does seem to have been badly publicised, as this is the first we've heard about it! We always went to the annual Rare Breeds at Stonleigh & thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmospere was always great & it was a chance to meet up with old friends, from so many breeds, each year. We b...

Re: THAME SHOW

We were keen to enter this show last year, but the rules stated that cattle had to have been TB tested within 60 days of the show, so we didn't go. :( :( Presumably this show is in a 4 year testing area? We did enquire but did not receive an answer. The 60 day ruling will limit the no. of entries f...
