Re: Cull cow
How many have you got to go? If it's just the one and especially if it is very old or lame, just ring your local knacker/ fallen stock man, he will deal with it on the property then take it away. Some hunts still take cattle, again they will cull and take away. Nicer for the animal to go at home, bu...

Pleasure in difficult times
Cows outside now, at least in these awful times, we can all take pleasure in walking round the fields admiring those delightful little cows. I hope all of you are well and staying safe.

Re: Life and Times of Dexters signed by author
My heart goes out to all the members and people in Australia who are caught up in the terrible fires. Utterly devastating for the people, the animals wild and domesticated, and the loss of all the property. Let's all hope for rain!! I will start the bidding at £50 Carolann Raybould President Dexter ...

Re: Dexter Statistics.
Well said Duncun. On one hand members wish the society and breed promotion to move forward, but on the other side there is a fraction who seem to want to dig up trouble. This is not helping to,recruit members or keep long standing ones. This not helping to make showing our lovely breed off at the sh...

Re: Bull registration costs
DNA testing is not harder from an older animal!! The point is, sorting out the mess that, having an older bull that is being used on cows is a problem. A pedigree animal by definition means it's lineage is fully traceable. Unregistered bulls have been used on cows, ( or on unregistered cows) then the...

Re: Daftest question.
A short leg bull should be more than able to serve a none short cow. But with any animal, it is conformation that is the key. A bull with its hind legs too far underneath its body, is going to be prone to slipping while trying to serve. This can cause what is called broken penis it doesn't actually ...

Re: Pat Short, Elmwood Dexters.
Sad to hear Pat has passed away. I learned a lot from pat. Her knowledge of bloodlines was incredible, just mention an animal and she could reel of its pedigree. She had a passion for true traditional dexters. We had the best of times showing and socialising with the lovely central Dexter group. RIP...

Re: Election to Council
Would it not be a good Idea to insist that members of council after three years must stand down and are not eligible to re stand for at least 6 years. Some of the reasons being........on top of normal running of business Year 1 listen and learn ......history has a great role to play , learn about th...

Re: More good linear scores last month
There will always be the odd very good animal that comes along ,but they may not be able to pass on the good traits. It is very important to have, and breed from good female family lines ie females, who themselves ,their progeny, and siblings all breed similar high quality. People say the bull is half...

Re: DEXTERS FOR AUCTION 30 APRIL 2016
Are you saying then Peter that the majority of the showing people , who don't give a dam about points , ( which by the way I think should be banned as they course to much trouble ) are less important than the points chasers, and you would deny them of even going to a show at all, just so that you can...

Re: Changes to Showing Rules
As Ann quite rightly states ,the shows need entries. Most decent folk don't mind opposition. It's a mystery to me why you would wish to win with only 2 in the class. irrespective of who bred or bought it, A good animal is something to ASPIRE to. For those people who insist on finding nasty ways to e...

Re: DEXTERS FOR AUCTION 30 APRIL 2016
There are very few chances to purchase show animals and genuinely excellent breeding stock. With so many animals on offer, there really will be something for everyone and at prices to suit all pockets. With a careful well thought out breeding plan I have seen this herd improve over the last 20 years...
