Steer prices

Just interested to know what people think are reasonable prices for well grown steers born spring 2014 and 2015? We have some for sale at the moment. I had a phone call yesterday where someone asked the prices and when I told them, replied, "What each?" before hanging up. I don't think I'm...

Re: old cow beef

Well we are dealing with some health issues and I think it would be wrong to sell them on, on that basis, so I have been looking at other options with them. It is not to do with age it just happens that the girls who've come back with it are this age. I have a limit in the amount I can keep because ...

Re: old cow beef

Ah interesting. I had a perception that the beef would be tough as old boots if they were older. I'll give them a call then and see what they say at the abattoir.

old cow beef

Hi all, hope everyone is well. Just a quick question, I'm going to cull some of our older girls out of the herd shortly. Just planning what's the best way out with them. We have a range of ages from 5 to 11 years old in the group I'm going to sell. Am I right to assume they're too old to go for beef...

Re: Vehicles

The current Land Rover is my second. The first was a 200tdi but the current one is a TD5, which has cost a small fortune to keep going, it averages a week a month in the garage, since I've had it. As well as the odd day here and there where I'm repairing or replacing bits. Have decided my money woul...

Vehicles

Sorry to go slightly off Dexters, but just wondered what vehicles people are using. Have just made the decision to sack off our Land Rover, which is back in the garage for what has become it's, at least monthly visit, since buying it. I'm thinking of an Isuzu DMax, just wondered if anyone on here ha...

Re: Isn't it about time that...

I find Facebook and Twitter invaluable. I pick up a lot of customers through our facebook page, although I don't have a huge number of followers on there. I use Twitter mainly for gathering information rather than advertising but I have had new customers from there too. They are both effectively fre...

Re: Another Nail in the Coffin

"Commercial gain" means you are getting paid for the journey. ie transporting for someone else and getting paid. Transporting your own goods or tools to a market place, abbatoir, jobsite etc is not commercial gain. This is something I have been involved with most of my working life in one ...

Re: Abandon Hope....

Always makes for thoroughly depressing reading when you see stuff like that. I've just caught up on last weeks First Time Farmers too, where one of the guys was basically told by his accountant to contract out the farm and do something else if he wanted to make any money. Their small size means they...

Re: Electric Fence Under Attack!

I think it's Rutland Fencing that do a lockable metal box that you can put an energiser in. That would be otter proof. Alternatively I have had a couple of people tell me that you can get a metal box that the energiser sits in, and a remote to turn on the energiser, which then makes the box itself l...

I think the 2 look like they're doing the naa na na nana na naa bit of Hey Jude. Maybe Saltaire Peru doesn't know the words.

Keep going I'll join in for the next chorus.

Thank you Saffy

Would just like to say a big Thank you to Saffy for letting me visit and taking the time to talk me through her cattle today. It was absolutely brilliant and I learnt a lot, as well as getting some different ideas for things. Fly enjoyed having a nose round too, Will no doubt be back in touch...
