Re: Bull Semen

Sorry I meant to say that we've reduced our prices to just £9 a straw to try to help people out since the Genus handling charges went up a couple of years ago.

Best wishes,

Malcolm.

Re: Bull Semen

Hello All, Just seen this chain. We have straws available from Apple Coda (EX94). This has now been sold all over the world. COda was the National Show Champion in 2012 and straw sales have remained strong with many repeat customers. Sales this year include Switzerland, Australia, France and Finland...

Apple Coda Straws

Hi Everyone, Since winning the National Show in 2012 and achieving a Linear Classification score of EX94 we've had some really good sales of straws both in the UK and abroad. Straws have now been sold in Australia, New Zealand and all over Europe. As a result we've now decided to reduce our prices i...

Re: TB in low risk areas

Di, Could you please give me the name of your contact in APHA as they've given me contradictory advice. They're telling me at the moment that I may have to post movement test on the return from shows in 4 year zones even though we're in a four year zone ourselves. I've just cancelled my entries to B...

Re: TB testing for shows

Thanks Jim, I've heard the rule but what is the logic behind that rule?

TB testing for shows

We farm in a 4 year TB test zone. I've entered a Belted Galloway bull for Bath & West show next week and received the paperwork this week. Luckily I noticed that ALL cattle have to have had a clear TB test within 60 days of the show. I telephoned the show office explaining that we're in a 4 year...

Apple Coda Possibly Available For Hire

As we have a number of his daughters retained in our herd we are considering hiring out our non-short bull Apple Coda for the spring and summer. Coda was the National Show Champion in 2012 and has a Linear Classification score of EX94, the highest score achieved and the highest scoring bull availabl...

Re: Is it worth it?

Sorry Mark, wasn't intending to be rude. Thanks for joining the discussion - how was the figure arrived at please and what is it's purpose?

PS. I'll bring some chocolate biscuits to Melton as penance for my earlier flippancy.

Re: Is it worth it?

I'm also interested in what proportion of Dexters are registered compared to unregistered. Of the people I sell to at least eight out of ten have no interest in joining the DCS and see membership as adding only costs and paperwork. What can we do to encourage membership and registration and do we ev...

Re: Is it worth it?

Thanks Jac, good points. I've also been wondering about the fee of £21.96 payable for the transfer of an animal to a non-member. Who is meant to pay this - the buyer or the vendor? Has anyone ever paid it I wonder. How could it possibly be enforced?

Re: Is it worth it?

That's not really the point I'm making Jac. What I'm asking is whether the DCS should actively encourage registration or actively discourage it - in this case by charging the extra amount.

Re: Is it worth it?

Assuming she's a good heifer shouldn't the DCS be actively encouraging me to register her? Even if this is a few days late? What is the extra £30.73 for? Did one of the Council members suddenly shout through a mouthful of chocolate digestives the random figure of "thirty pounds seventy three pe...

Re: Is it worth it?

Thanks Rob. I can see that the DCS have to have a cut off point and that DNA testing is a logical stage for late registrations where there might be some doubt about parentage. What I don't really understand is why they have the interim stage - the extra charge? The charge itself doesn't clarify pare...

Is it worth it?

Last month we had a non-short heifer calf from pedigree parents. Unfortunately, I forgot to register her with the DCS until about five days over the 30 day limit and was advised that my application would be considered by Council. I have today received a letter from the DCS telling me that the Counci...

Steers wanted in Yorkshire.

I've received an enquiry from someone looking for three steers - mixed ages ideally - near Hull. I don't have anything suitable available at the moment and wondered if anybody else has anything available- ideally somewhere not too far from Hull but they were prepared to travel to Stamford, Lincs. Th...
