Saffy, The breed is Fjall (Swedish Mountain), but it is a branch of the breed that has been very little mixed with the modern highly productive type of the breed. The cows from her and a few more farms (very remote farms in the mountain region) are preserved as an own gene pool within the Fjall bre...

(I collect pictures with ladies and cows. May I share another favourite? This is Karin Eriksson, an heroine for us interested in old cattle ...

Who is Kingshill Gullasch? Is he an AI bull? From earlier days or contemporary?

your beef is wasted as veal clive, try it and see. veal is tender and lean works well with sauces, but dexter is sublime as matured beef. as to profit it will be a balance of reduced wintering costs over reduced income. butchering and killing to be thought through. we wean our bulls at 8 weeks feed...

I have read somewhere (American site?) that some give their cows bicarbonate free chioce in a little box. As with powdered minerals. Have anyone tried that? Is it a good idea, would they eat it if they needed it?

Can I bring this topic up again? I am trying to write a short text abut the origins of the Dexter, and again I am puzzled and confused. What is the contemporary view on the connection between Dexters and Kerrys? What do you (I am now addressing all Dexter owners worldwide) say when you tell the sto...

Sounds like a lovely Dexter and a future favourite cow.

Gordon Brown moment ;-) (It´s probably not easy for him either.) Anyway I am so pleased to hear that the stockjudging man thought of H as a very promising heifer. I have looked at the pictures one hundred times, and every time I think "I would pick E and H no matter what others say". But ...

Not yet, but the plan is to milk her when she calves. Hopefully rather soon.

Ok Saffy.. ..but I am ashamed of my dexters right now. They have grown too fat this winter. The really broad one is due in May. Their friend is a Swedish fjall cow, an old polled diary breed from the northern parts of the country. Not much to eat yet.. http://underhund.com/miscpics/kossor1.jpg

Saffy! Howcome there are so many Dexters in your fields, have you been out on raids stealing cattle? I remember when you bought a cow, a heifer, a bull calf and a steer, that was not a long time ago. I bougt a cow and a heifer calf 6 months earlier, and I now have: two cows. I guess your case of th...

Still some snow left. But spring fights and will hopefully win the battle. Sun yesterday, lots of rain today...

Soon I will let the cows out, they have been inside since the fence disapeared under the snow.
