As i understand it, OTM cattle will still need to be boned at the abattoir. so it wont help late finishers, i cant undertsand why though. i believe that only 8 cases of bse have been found with the bse testing none of them under 48 months. if that is true then what is the risk that requires boning....

I cant bare the thought of my old girls going through the otms scheme, and we have decided that the last of my pre 96ers will live out her days on the farm. if she becomes unproductive then she will be put down on farm. they want us to get rid of them but in my mind the sums dont add up. if you use...

We slaughter at 8 months, which is much older than most people think, but this give us the same carcass weights as the continentals get with there milk fed calves at 4-6months. they ar killed in the same race etc as any cattle. is that what you meant? We recently lost 2 whole carcases, put in a ski...

Well stew you do what you want, but certainly its not what i rear my suckler cattle for. did you mean to say you sell suckling pig for 50-70 per pound!! i assume not. but if you get 50-70 each and that is live with your customer paying for killing etc then its not a bad return. but i have to say th...

Dont you think it is a terrible waste? To kill a young beast when it could go on and produce such a fantastic product later in its life. with such a tiny veal calf you cant get a high yield, and i would have thought the cuts would be painfully small. To be highly moralistic with beef in short suppl...

I dont know if they will show it but we where filmed for the f word. 1 of the things we filmed was in our cold store, we were showing the difference between beef and veal. the carcase used for comparison was a dexter side. it did get confusing as the crew couldnt understand what dexter was and advi...

I have to say I am not relly concerned about unregistered animals. It is a dream to have every pure animal registered with the breed society, and will never happen. Though the Dexter breed may differ from mosst livestock breeds in many respects but we are likely to have the same sort of structure t...
