Re: Woodmagic Manikin 3rd

Manikin is looking very well. Fingers crossed she holds to the bull. Thomasina, my 18 year cow, is looking poor in comparison but she is still suckling a stonking bull calf born last Sept. Thomsina has been running with the bull Feb-May but hasn't held. I'm giving her a holiday now and will try agai...

Re: Record Cull Prices Over Thirty Months (OTM)

It would be nice if this trend would trickle down to boost prices for store steers and pedigree breeding stock, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: BT Switch Off 2025

This topic came up locally in the big winter storms when some people were without electricity for 2 weeks. Landlines worked after mobiles ran out of charge. That said, my landline was knocked out too. One can't help feeling that "levelling up" does not take this sort of situation into acco...

Re: Drought?The Weather

It was very hot here a couple of weeks ago but it's since returned to bearable temperatures and we've had enough rain to freshen the grass.

Re: Phillipa Laing RIP

It was very good to find a proper tribute to Philippa in the Year Book that arrived this week. Better late than never. Hopefully Stuart Creasey will be commemorated in the next issue. This is where the Bulletin is sorely missed for disseminating such news. The Year Book functions as neither the Bull...

Re: Stuart Creasey, RIP

Very sad news but I do feel DCS should have sent out a round robin email about this to all members before the funeral. I do hope the next Yearbook will have a proper valediction for Stuart and a long overdue one for Philippa. I felt that not enough tribute was paid at the time to David Key and his f...

Re: Isolation and Loneliness in the Farming Community

Just to expand on Saffy's idea of support but for those who cannot, or do not wish to, engage with Facebook, it might be an idea to list some regional alternatives. Locally, UTASS - Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Society- was explicitly founded to address the issues of loneliness, lack of inter...

Cheese making equipment for sale

Realistically, I'm never going to make cheese again. So, I have moulds for various types of soft cheese, a small cheese press and books on cheesemaking looking for a new home. I can make an inventory with prices, if anyone is interested. To update, here are some photos. Also available stainless stee...

Re: Sad Farewell to Woodmagic Petrel Ex91

Sad news but Petrel had an exceptional life with you. A lot of cows are lucky to make it to 14. I'm sure her descendants are legion, so you can keep the line going.

Re: Isolation and Loneliness in the Farming Community

This is a very laudable initiative but I think some of those most in need won't be able to access it. The more elderly and isolated are less likely to have mobile phones and internet, for example large areas of North Pennines still don't have signal. What they do miss is the snail mail pen friend.
