Mark, I think the revised site is great and I look at it regularly although I have not yet bought / sold anything through it. If and when I come to sell it would be my first port of call. I agree with your observation that adverts for Dexters in the Farmers Guardian have reduced, but there seem to ...

Saffy, glad to hear your good news but it so sad that this is becoming more of a problem for all of us. When I first joined the bulletin board I read the problems Sylvia was having and it seemed such a remote issue, now it is just too common.

Colin - finger crossed for your re-test.

Louise - I like the sound of your method of selling, saves all the hassle of sorting and packing! I have taken the following from a Worcetershire County Council Trading Standards flyer: Raw meat and poultry must be sold by net weight. Stamped trade scales must be used and sales must be made by the ...

Well I went ahead and got my lorry, which has been great for picking up gates, blocking gates to fields with the current influx of gypsies. The road tax is low and the insurance little different to that for a 4x4. However points I didn't consider: - Breakdown cover; very expensive, cheapest I have ...

Both are well thanks, although mother is still suffering from fly bites near her eyes. I will try the equine fly mask again in a few days after they have settled in. Photo taken yesterday morning and both were fine last night. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4773373879_8ef884a8be_s.jpg Amazing ...

I have not seen it yet (still not on iPlayer as I type). I presume this must be inspired by the book "The Secret Life of Cows" by Rosamund Young? I was only thinking of this book this morning when I went to check the cattle to be unusally greeted at the gate by one of my heiffer's mother ...

They should be banned due to the fire risk, never mond the danger to livestock and they problems for the coastguard/RNLI. With everywhere as dry as it is at present the risk to heathland, thatched houses etc. Nearly as bad as my other pet hate, smokers flicking their cigarette butts out of the wind...

One of my cows suffers every summer with fly bites near her eyes and this year they are worse than ever. She has had a full dose of pour on and I also try to put summer fly cream around her face and treat the wounds as close to the eye as possible. No sooner than it is applied than she has gone up ...

JAnimal Health will do a risk survey for us but have mentioned animal feed as another possible source. The only feed we've bought in are additional local haylage bales when our own ran low at the end of winter. Does anyone know how long do the bacteria survive for outside the body? If haylage can b...

They found no lesions in her but my son who is a vet tells me quite forcefully that that does not mean that she did not have TB. The Midland Dexter Group had a presentation from a vet earlier in the year. He stated a similar view, the test is very accurate a positive reactor does have TB. If no les...

Colin, Very sorry to hear the news, we all live in dread of this happening to our own herds. I am never sure what to do about licks, I have looked in vain for some sort of holder that will hold the buckets off the ground (you would think the lick manufacturers would offer something). Think it is ti...

If you still have muck on the field try to harrow after it has rained. The muck on mine was so hard the harrowing has not broken it up.
