Re: Calving Assistance
My tally this year is one heifer just under two had to have a pull, calf sadly dead but my fault for working on mainland that day - 278 days from when bull went in. Other 17 calves all born completely unassisted, including another 3 two year old heifers. Two years ago had one true breech, had to hav...

Re: More good linear scores last month
That is really good to hear, and Mark is quite right about the value in having the scores for lesser ones that the elite EX's. I was really pissed off that I just could not get everything organised this year to do another batch, and now have sold some without them being done. I msut make more effort...

Re: dexter society
The arguments probably do not help dexter society members. The sad fact is that they are the result of poor communication within our society. At the time of the "Steering Committee" takeover years ago, I offered to pay for the whole council to have training from someone who was a true expe...

Re: DCS AGM postponed
I did not start this thread with any view to apportioning blame, and to be honest an open to the world forum is perhaps not the best way for debates about the running of DCS, but despite having a website which could host a members only discussion area, and a facebook page which is used more or less ...

Re: Dexter Sale at Exeter Livestock Market
The seller and the auctioneer both have a very important role to play in determining just how good a price can be obtained. The seller should not just arrive at the sale with a nervous dirty unhandleable animal. They should spend some time beforehand getting the animal used to being handled, prefera...

Re: DCS AGM postponed
One source says "I believe it to be a reliable source, text msg to me, via an email from a council member to him. Supposedly a letter on the way. " Another has had an email from Mark Bowles indicating that the Linear Assessment demo and the AGM are postponed, the email was read to me over ...

DCS AGM postponed
Several sources indicate that the DCS AGM has been postponed, and all members will be getting a letter shortly, but I really feel those who are coming a distance and have made plans and reservations, organised stock minders or even a vet practice locum in my case, should be informed as soon as possi...

Re: AGM Late Notification
The words gander, sauce and goose come to mind but such principled phrases do not seem to be universally applied in life.

Re: Carlisle sale
There was a considerable number in a herd dispersal from the Isle of Man, techincally not part of the Borders Dexter Group sale but went through the ring immediately after, and will have influenced prices. Some of their prices copied from Brian McAllister, were Lot 67 - £ 180, 68 - £360, 69 - not so...

Re: RBST
Aalthough it is not very clear from the RBST website (looks good superficailly but not great when scrutinised) just what we are looking at. I think these are the breeds on their watch list. I always think the RBST has made little noise about the success of the Dexter which was very much a rare breed...

Re: Scottish Dexter Sale Lanark 2nd September
Thanks for the good wishes, I hope we do have a good sale, we have had a couple of false starts at a Scottish sale, the last two years ago poorly advertised by the Auctioneer and then the cattle sold with little warning to those in the market in the pens at the edge of the area in use - not allowed ...

Re: Scottish Dexter Sale Lanark 2nd September
There is a good entry for the Lanark Dexter Sale on 2nd September, somewhere between 20 and 30 animals I think, which is good for a first real effort. Now we need the buyers! So we all need to put it about as much as we can. Scottish Farmer today says 30. They should be going through the ring about ...
