This is really interesting about Salty throwing more 'dairy' types....let us know about his daughter's udder Inger, even at first lactation. I had thought that he would be more beef and am using him in combination with Magician, who I thought would be more dairy. Although I must say that a Magician...

Inger she is gorgeous! Salty carries dun as well as red and I have bred him to a yearling heifer, out of my Cluny daughter (dun) and Galaxy, also carrying dun... so wouldn't a dun little heifer be nice! Not due till next spring, though, lucky you! These bulls haven't been used in Canada as much as ...

Hi Beryl; Woodmagic Waxwing is listed as having GB 9088 but Wheatear only has the CDN pedigree number (that I can find) Sire Squirrel 2nd GB 2072 and Dam Doesmead Dianne GB 8453, hope that helps. Kathy, most of the 'red' or 'dun' animals registered carry R or D with their name, 'black' most times w...

The test here is just hair folicles, done by Bova-Can, through our association. If your neighbour is worried about having carriers, it's easy to find out, but one thing that is a sure pointer, other than 'look' is the offspring size of her cow and her cow's dam. A carrier doesn't breed true, meanin...

Hi kathy; I think that Rambler was listed as improving feet, Salty and Cluny for smaller size. What I understand is that Chabotte might have been a little light on the back end. Liz

It's funny Martin; I was actually advised by an older farmer around here, not to look at the 'looks' of a bull or ram, but rather, to look at their respective offspring. I think that my Dad would say the 'proof is in the pudding'! The question of 'value' and Dexters is one that we are collectively ...

The ease and cost of A.I. in Canada, sure beats keeping a bull to service just a few cows. Not only has it been less expensive for us but more importantly it has allowed us to access top quality bulls and use them to breed for traits. We have only had Dexters for three years, and the ability to use...

Hi Chris; We have had a similar guy, jersey, cut by the vet to complete a botched up job by me :( A little costly but in order for him to run with our Dexters we had to be sure that he couldn't breed (pedigrees as Duncan said) and our vet said that with half of him intact there was a definate chanc...
