Re: The problems in France
Perhaps people are just keeping them for beef and don't want to register? Not much different here. I have sold loads over the years and almost none have been to registered people. They just want to do beef, usually for themselves and friends only.

Re: Council Resignation
What a shame, and a loss. We haven't met Ian but we had lots of communications when you were helping as an advisor, and I can't think of anyone more reasonable and capable.

Re: Grazing pictures
Here's a pic from a few years ago. I show this one because those 5 beasts were on a tiny 1/4 acre field for about 2 months, the grass growth was amazing. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x154/cliveataylor/BroomcroftReds.jpg And one with the local power station way in the background... http://i187....

Re: Cross bred Dexters
Just done 40 acres round bale hay today. Got some ryegrass/red clover silage as well from a month ago. Lovely weather, will hopefully be doing a 2nd cut on the RC soon. Glad to have aftermath now as running low on grazing. Could do with some rain now.
I think Beldex is best one so far.

Re: Cross bred Dexters
Open an account with photobucket.com or the like, upload your images there. Then click on them, copy the "direct link", then do a post on here, click the image (Img) button, and paste in the address of the image. i.e. this image is not on here, it's just a link to my photobucket image. Thi...

We'd love to see a photo!Cresswell Dexters wrote:Striped baby number 2 arrived yesterday and has a perfect stripe and looks very like a Beltie. I think they are slightly bigger than the pure Dexter calves but no problems yet! Will keep you posted.

Re: Cross bred Dexters
I thought Belties were wild. A friend of mine had a herd and he had to get rid of them, found them difficult he said. No experience myself. He's now got a herd of wild Limos .

Re: Steer finishing advice
Put it like this, if you under-finish a steer, then that's not good really. But if you over-finish, it's not such a problem, if a problem at all. Conversely I'd say the exact opposite, maybe because I prefer lean beef, I think what I was trying to say is that if you are finishing off grass, within ...
