Dna genotying and other tests
I have in the past asked owners of historical semen straws (used) that might be held in their breeding records to consider sending them to me for DNA genotyping, and a private email from a breeder prompts this post. Let me add that I enter these into the system with Legacy and the name of the person...

Ratcliffe Dairyman 1076 Would someone with the late 20's herdbook that has this registration be willing to send it to me. Color, birthdate, parents with registration numbers ? This bull carried red but that red "may" have been dun, as I think there is a dun trail from the American lines ba...

Re: Woodmagic Photos
Oh dear Duncan. . . . . . . . . . . life has such complications! Your name is spelled with a Mac my birth name with a Mc. My ancestors go way back in Scotland as well as Ireland and when I was growing up I could never quite understand the difference of a Mac or a Mc. Actually I still do not. There i...

Re: Woodmagic Photos
Tim, The changes are mostly complete on the pedigree site now, and the English Dexters can be searched through the DCS category rather than "other" which included all of Europe, or searched with EM or EF for English male or English female. The Irish entries are RDS and IM or IF. Still seek...

Re: Overhieght in Dexters
I assume you missed the part of the discussion where the woman who raises and trains oxen says that as steers they continue to grow. . . .and grow. . . . . and grow. Like noses.

Re: Staggers - so close!
Over a decade ago my herd was hit with awful cases of pinkeye, and through inquiry a long-time farmer told me to feed KELP. So I did. Free choice and year round. My cows thrived with kelp, beautiful shiny coats, and all around good condition and not a single case of pink eye during the next years. D...

Re: Dexters in the News
Speaking of semen.
I am seeking a straw of Saturn of Knotting ( Knotting Saturn). It can be a used straw that may have been placed in file with breeding records. Also any Woodmagic bulls.
Thanks,
Judy

http://legacydextercattleregistry.com/an_results.php Hi Tim, Yes. The link to the world ancestor files is above. There are changes in the works to add more definition, and though the search abilities, especially the customized search is great, I think some things need to be clearer. The English and ...

Woodmagic Photos
Does anyone have a photo of Woodmagic Mink they woukd be willing to share for the Legacy online site pedigree. There are a few photos in the WM lines some may not have seen previously If you have not visited and you enjoy pedigree research I think you will enjoy the many, many Dexters added born pri...

Re: Overhieght in Dexters
Jac, There was no height standard in Ireland either. I believe the first time height was introduced to the breed standard was the DCS herd book of 1992 and I think that was increased in 1998, and maybe yet again since that time. I have all the versions detailed in a word document but I cannot rememb...

Re: Overhieght in Dexters
This is the Dexter breed standard as published in herd book 1 - DCS. A STANDARD DESCRIPTION OF THE DEXTER. 1. The Dexter is essentially both a milk-producing and a beef makng breed, and both these points should, in judging, he taken Into consideration. 2. Colour.--Bulls.-Whole black or whole red (t...

Re: Interesting email
Says WHO, Kirk? I am frankly tired of the " let's breed true" poppycock! Wanna breed true? Then go purchase and breed one of those breeds, whoever or whatever they might be! I've yet to see a breed that has the same height, weight, udders, in their mature bulls and cows. What a bunch of no...

Re: Purity
Kirk is like the politicians I see and hear on a daily basis as I live quite close to Washington DC. They have no respect for truth. They take a little piece of the picture and they convince you that you see the entire picture. Why do we bother to develop a breed if we don't protect and preserve it ...

Miss Di, I had never stopped for a moment to think of the labor required to produce a herd book. Reading your comments on their printing over the years and the reason the 1969 book wasn't printed raised my awareness. I spend hours upon hours transcribing the information from herd books to the online...
