Mine have been avoiding them and I have then topped the field after they have grazed around them. There are loads of buttercups this year, I have topped some paddocks for someone with horses because of them.

Thank you to Saffy and the other contributors for this topic. I will find this extremely useful when constructing mine.

Have you thought about submitting it for publication in the next bulletin?

Mine have been out all winter and until yesterday were being fed twice a day.

There has definitely been a burst of growth as they all ignored the haylage yesterday morning and chose to graze the little bit of grass there was.

Martin - some very interesting articles and some good publicity for the Sussex breed, especially when tied in with an advert for a breed sale. All 3 articles appear to be from last year, did the society have a real push to get these published? Has there been anythign similar for Dexter's? If so has...

Well having given it some thought I think I am going to go for a 7.5t livestock lorry. Seems a bit overboard for my small herd, but I need to replace my Isuzu Trooper and the cost of a reasonable second hand 4x4 capable of 3.5t plus tacho will far exceed the cost of the lorry. There seem to be plen...

Thanks for all the replies. Mine are all grass fed, with haylage in the winter. Normally the fat is a creamy yellow which I would expect, but this one is almost canary yellow probably similar to Stephanie's lamb. I am worried it will put customers off, so just wanted to be prepared with information...

I took a 35 month old steer to the abattoir yesterday, the fat on the carcass is yellow.

At the abbatoir they said it makes no difference to the taste, but they don't know what causes it.

Does anyone know what causes the fat to be so yellow?

Derogation 9, does seem very strange, if you are going to have a derogation for livestock separate to that for agriculture then it can only be for monitoring of welfare? If that is the case then common sense would say the distances should correspond to those for livestock transport i.e. 65km which ...

Natasha - unfortunately it is the "maximum gross weight of the vehicle and trailer added together, or the towing vehicle’s maximum train weight, whichever is the smaller". The rules apply even if you don't use the trailer to its capacity, so just by towing a trailer capable of carrying 3....

Having just moved a bale of haylage with the tractor along the A38 I am wondering what you have to do to get stopped. Twice in the journey I had a police traffic car behind me when turning right with no working indicators and to make me feel even more guilty Isuddenly remembered my tax disc expired...

Clive - the 50km radius is as the crow flies. SteveM - too late I'm panicking. Trying to find out more about this it looks like I am technically illegal anyway for using a trailer capable of carrying 3.5t and a vehicle with a limit of 3.3t! I think this is going to be a problem for most of us and i...

Thank you for that David. It is obvious now you mention the chain ties I've seen plenty of them but not the rope ones.

I will probably stick them back on eBay as individual ties and see if there is any interest.
