Re: A Quiz From The 1970's

I'm rubbish at quizzes but here's my attempt (since I remember the 70s)
1. Fat hen is a chenopodium, a weed
2. Combine harvester
3. Pass
4. Dunno, possibly worms or moles
5.Welly boots
6. Mastitis, nasty variant

York rare breeds sale Sat 2nd Oct

Catalogues are now available online. A few older cows and a huge entry of heifers.
Only one bull, my entry Rosewood Glenkinchie. He's going there to sell but I won't accept ridiculously low bid compared to cull ring value.

Re: Carlisle sale prices

Coraline made £480, which I was pleased with. Pattypan, who was Reserve Champion, only made £350. My other three were £200ish, disappointing. It was a mad rush with the cattle being sold much earlier than normal. I was running between the sheep & cattle lines, missed my Hebs being sold and only ...

Re: List your ideas of things to do with your cows on Lock Down

None of us are in the same league as these chaps in lockdown. Put farmers tiger king cow into Google to see what I mean. Even better if someone with more computer skills than me could post an image or a link. (Rob - are you reading!). While it's not a Dexter, it is a small cow and I think that this ...

Very disappointed that there is no official obituary of Phillippa Laing in the 2020 Herd Year Book that arrived today.

Wolsingham Show

It's now official that Wolsingham Show in Co. Durham (N.E. England) is planning to go ahead on the first weekend in September. The Dexter classes on the Saturday could do with more support. A couple of people locally with heifers might come but have never shown cattle before. I'm happy to host a sho...

Re: Beef Prices

There used to be a suggested price guide on the Dexter Soc website. It wasn't easy to find but somewhere on the beef marketing pages. It averaged out as roughly £11/kg across all cuts. I use the prices from a couple of years ago as a guideline for selling my beef and that gives me a return that cove...
