I wanted to use the power of the internet and this site to get some written support for 2 guys in our area who want to open up a brand new abatior in our area. It sounds like it will have decent capacity and the road access is brilliant being on the A46 north of Leicester, not far from Melton Mowbray. It would be ideal for anyone in Notts and i am sure the silly distances some of us have to travel for killing, this proposal would be ideal for breeders even further away.
Thanks for reading this and if it is of interest please, please put pen to paper to help it on its way.
Thanks
Dear livestock keepers

NEW MULTI-SPECIES ABATTOIR IN THE REGION
Some years ago the Melton Mowbray Food Partnership carried out a
feasibility study on the need for a local multi-species abattoir for the
use of the local farming community. There was overwhelming support for
such a facility but funding such an expensive project was the stumbling
block.
Thankfully now, two local livestock farmers who are well respected and
have
a good knowledge of the meat industry have submitted a planning
application
to Melton Borough Council to build a good sized abattoir (possibly 50
beast, 50 sheep and 40 pigs per week) which will have butchering and
hanging facilities at Six Hills near to Melton Mowbray right on the edge
of
the A46. It will therefore have excellent communications. They are
also
seeking some additional funding through various public sources but
through
EMDA in particular.
Michael Winterton and Andy Hawley need to show that there is support for
such a facility to assist both the planning and funding processes. We
would point out that it will not be a farmers cooperative, therefore,
financial contributions are not required, but, if it is to succeed we
need
to show that there is support for such a facility. If you consider that
you would be in a position to use such a facility a letter of support
from
you would help enormously.
Stephen Jeal at Melton Mowbray has offered to help in coordinating
these.

Melton Mowbray. LE13 0NP. This will be a great facility and will help
anyone who already, or wishes, to sell direct to the public or to other
outlets who want to be selling local meat.
