We are running secretary Holland Dexter.

We are told we can register Dexters from Holland and Belgium (Dutch language side).
Otherwise should DCS not register Dexters in our region, but they do. We don't care, most are double registred.

I don't think that we should register your animals in England. Big chance DSC does not take over registry.

Legacy Dexter Cattle Registry,( a genotype registry) will register cattle from around the world for a minimal fee. The Dexter must be currently registered or meet the requirement for registration in all major Dexter registries, and must be DNA genotyped. A genotype is easily ordered through Legacy, the cost in US dollars is $25, an import form is provided and your sample, ( most pull tail hairs from the switch, but hair with root follicles from other locations works, semen can be tested, and deceased animals can be tested through meat ( same cost) or teeth ( expensive as this is postmortem testing). The DNA results are usually available within 7 working days from the time the sample is received at the University of California, Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, a world renowned laboratory that developed DNA testing in cattle. Legacy sets up the testing, emails you the form and import certificate, you ship the sample directly to the lab, and your results are emailed. Simple and expedient. UCD-VGL reports micro-satellite markers 16 in number. LegacyDexterCattleRegistry.com Any Dexter with a genotype qualifies. It does not have to be done at UCD-VGL.

Currently Legacy is seeking samples of Woodmagic cattle to make a permanent record of Mrs. Rutherford's herd. Legacy will pay half of the testing fee at UCD-VGL. If you have a USED straw of any of the early AI bulls that you would contribute to the effort that would be appreciated. ( I know it would be impossible to gain a live straw).

A similar herd in the US, closed in the mid 1970's and founded on 4 cows and 2 bulls has been DNA typed and a permanent record established. Like Woodmagic, animals from this herd are still being preserved.

And I invite pedigree researchers to browse the ancestor pedigrees on the Legacy pedigree site. There are random entries from the earliest Irish herdbooks, English #1 forward, most of the 1930's are complete, and some lines are nearly complete to foundation. The Woodmagic animals are nearly, if not complete, to foundation.
