It would be interesting to get some input here from breeders with larger herds. In my small herd, rarely over 10 and never more than 14 total including calves, I cannot say I have seen any pattern of dominance with regard to size, colour or horned, dehorned or polled. I would say that I hasve problems putting them in a shed for the winter and have to be very carefull who goes in a pen with whom, even though they can get along ok out in the open. One of my most dominant cows is a black short legged horned one, the next most dominant is rarely with her to test each other out but she is red polled long legged. In the field she is a match for any with horns but I would not like to risk injury in a pen.
