Yes Rod I confess I am both Duncans. Glad you didn't mind the bit of humour - difficult to get it into this medium without being misunderstood I find. Sometimes tongue in cheek is mistaken for cheek in the tongue.
Back to hte inspections - I think we certainly need rigorous inspection for the elite bull scheme, and some sort of inspection for Society Approved sales. No scheme is perfect but I thnbk we need something. No inspector is perfect either - one of my red face days was being on the Inspection Team at the Stoneleigh Show and Sale when a heifer with a small patch of white on the brisket decided to turn a sumersault in front of Jane Paynter when she was judging. Pity she stood so firm when we looked at her in the lines. But I think on balance an inspection system at such sales does raise the standard and makes novices more aware that there are good and bad in the breed.
