We have to use two different products. One that treat the worms and another that is very good for ticks. I haven't found a product that is very good for all of them.

Our vet thinks it quaint that I call our Dexter cows by their names. We have 20 at the moment and I'm sure that a few of them know their names and react to them when they're called. Especially the ones that need a bit of extra individual feeding. I must admit though, that since we got the new head ...

Now now you lot. Play nicely! I'm sure we've given Jonathon enough information to work on. My only other suggestion is that you ask some of your farming neighbours for advice on animal numbers suitable for your property Jonathon. As they will probably have similar conditions to you and can visit yo...

In New Zealand we had a booklet published called 'The International Dexter'. It's got some good historical Dexter photos. If you contact the Secretary of the NZ Dexter Association, I'm sure you could still purchase a copy. They have a website, so you'll be able to find contact information on that. ...

Oh Duncan!

Jonathon, I'd go for either two weaner steers and buy in winter feed, or get some sheep. You can buy self-shedding sheep like Wiltshires or Dorpers, if you don't want to be bothered with shearing.

Maybe you could breakfeed your Short-legged Dexters, in a separate group from the Long-legged ones, so that they don't run to fat so fast? Although, on small properties, I can see that being a problem, rotation wise. You're right about the Short-legged Dexters keeping their condition though. One of...

In a previous posting Mark, you stated that you preferred Long-legged bull calves for beef rather than Short-legged calves. The Short-legged calves produce just as much meat as the Long-legged ones do, don't they? And without the extra weight in the leg bones, they would give a higher bone-out perc...
