Thankyou for that JohnP. I've had a look through the web-site and printed off a couple of pages for my files. I find genetics quite interesting.

It's a cloth patch with an elongated bubble down the middle of it. One side of the patch has a very sticky adhesive which when dipped in very hot water, becomes quite tacky and you stick it along the tailbone of the cow. When the cow is mated, the bubble is pressed down on and this causes the bubbl...

I have since found out that Bulls with scurs have to be considered as heterozygous for polling, as studies have yet to find a bull with scurs who has two genes for polling. That being the case, the bull that I have borrowed has the same chance of throwing a horned calf, as our own bull, who, as it ...

Well Duncan, the cow that I have been hoping to get in calf for the last couple of years, has just been served, so now I just have to wait. I tried a different bull this year and I've been giving her cod liver oil on and off during the previous month. Hopefully it was often enough. As the cows live...

A number of New Zealand registered Dexters are listed as E.T. I guess it was the cheapest way of importing a particular genetic mix in a calf. Still a big outlay of money though.

No we didn't have a barbeque Peter, but we did get a bit of sun late in the afternoon. In time to do the feeding round again. I don't like snow much, so I do sympathise. It's just that this is unusual weather for us, for this time of year.

Yes, Merry Christmas from New Zealand. I wonder if your weather in the UK is better than our Non-Summer here. At least where we live, the temperatures are warm enough to keep the grass growing. I can't say the same for parts of the South Island. All the best for the New Year everyone.

That is such an excellant account of the history of Dexters, Duncan, that I hope you don't mind if I print it off and give copies to people interested in knowing more about where Dexters originated from.
