Breeding short to non-short, or at least the involvement of shorts, masks what you are breeding. Our tallest animals have come from tiny shorties. Have you thought of breeding non-short to non-short but just selecting for real/genetic shortness, then what you see is what you get and you get 100% in...

Of course we know.

We use short-leg bulls on our non-shorts cows
and non-short bulls (mostly tested) on our short cows.

In holland there are to many long-legged cows taller than 43 inch.

We want to import semen from the UK. At this moment the following bulls are available, but from most of these bulls wouldn't come new semen overseas anymore. - Moomin Posh - Moomin Jupiter - Brambledel Redberry Prince - Cobthorne Dannyboy - Butterbox Morris In Holland the Dexter-farmers are small-h...

The muzzle of a dun calf is greyish, whereas a black is black and a red is pink, though some reds have dark muzzles most of them are pink at birth. In poor light with a slimy wet calf it can be difficult, but in good light not too hard to tell the difference - it is a lot easier when you have seen ...

I 've asked "Van Haeringen": PHA test costs are 55 euro in Holland at the moment. Not a lot of money. I think its worth to test at least 5 bulls. But we like to know what the animals are wich have a "high risk" to carry PHA. There are no watterbabies reported yet. But I think th...

Margareth, We know Woodmagic Wheatear was carrier for PHA. Her mother Doesmead Diana 2nd seems to be the source. Because out of her this Wheatley was born (the source of PHA in australia). That means likely that PHA doesn't come from the woodmagic herd, but from the doesmead herd. Do you have the p...

You missed the barn-dance!

For us as Dutchies the hardest part was the translation, but looking the neighbours and copiing them it was much easier.

We are Nico & Annemiek from Holland. We were in the UK (with Silke Warneke) a few weeks ago. We visited some herds, people were very grateful. We had a warm welcome at all herds! For us this was a great experience, we enjoyed every minute. Of course we were also at the AGM. We even did the barn...

Stephanie, thanks for your judgement. "little boy" is a non-short (tested BD1-N). He's 1,16 at shoulder. as a calf we thought he could be a shorty. We have 2 short-legged cows and 1 non-short, the last is very small, she misses all the things Little Boy has. So for us it's a good combinat...
