I was very fortunate to have a Dexter friend with a dairy friend in New Zealand and samples from animals in our herds were tested in the beginning out of curiosity and because we surmised that Dexters having the positive qualities and characteristics we value would likely be producers of A2 milk. T...

I was reading the dairy topic and started to make this comment but thought it might be best to start a new topic. Are UK breeders familiar with A2 milk? My US herd is one of only two that were originally tested and confirmed with animals that were homozageous for A2 milk production. The test was no...

Yep! I'm desperate. :) I am a compulsive collector and researcher of all things Dexter. I am currently compiling information from historical UK herdbooks and I need the following herd books: 1951-1952-1953-1954-1958-1959. Would anyone who owns these years being willing to sell? Would anyone owning ...

Thanks Rebecca. I guess I could do some experiments? Like Clive, I'd feel a bit of a fool out in the field racing cow to cow as I see tails raised. Clive, that was funny! I grew up in a very small town and word does get around. I was laughing at the image of you trying to explain jogging through th...

A Dexter friend and I have heard that a human pregnancy test can be placed under the urine stream in Dexters for pregnancy testing. We have been wondering if that does work, or if not, why not? I thought I would ask here since Duncan is so good about answering these type of questions, and hopefully...

Hi Clive,

I cross-posted your comments on the marbling which I found quite interesting, and have been asked for the name of the book you were reading. Would you be willing to post it?

A long distance thanks for your concerted efforts to promote Dexter beef.

I gave an older bull to a new breeder as I wanted him to live out his life rather than be butchered, and she is still using him at the age of 14, and one of my herd bulls is 11, another is 10.

While talking Dexter with a long time US breeder today, ( both of us fond of small Dexters) the arthritis word came into the conversation. It appears, in most photos I've seen, the English herd is still small in stature, some carriers I suppose, and in the case of the Woodmagic herd, none. What is ...

I must say, Inger, " You are absolutely correct", and as I am not one to allow "little" things to block my way for very long, I decided it was past time for the old dog to attempt a new trick. I gathered an ice-cold Coke, a clean notebook, pen, and my barely thumbed copy of &quo...

Re: Cardiff research As you know Ms. Rutherford, the US has in recent months submitted samples to the UK for inclusion in the Cardiff research. Your comment in the above thread raises this thought and question: The Woodmagic herd has been closed for half a century. The English herd has had consider...
