Interesting! I only keep a few cows (dozen max). I always used ketchem metal tags many years ago. When two tags became necessary I changed to Fearing. As some of you are saying they lose these on a regular basis (certainly yearly) without tearing their ears! I have got to the stage where I only ret...

So sorry to hear that Jo. We lost our gorgeous Great Dane a while back and I miss him desperately. I guess you have to think positively and console yourself with the knowledge that they had a long and happy life as part of your family. I hand shear my shetlands. They are looking ridiculous at the m...

Hi John, welcome aboard. I have lived and kept cattle in Suffolk (West) for 19 years and my greatest problem with my few cattle is finding someone to trim their feet. Your best bet would probably be to talk to your vet. I wish you luck and if you find someone (who actually turns up!) please let me ...

Two very nice animals Clive. I used my bull on his mother last year and the resulting heifer is without a doubt the best I have bred in 27 years. The heifer is very closely bred, with three of her grand parents all having very similar pedigrees. Sorry I cannot post picture but like Beryl, my IT ski...

Thanks Ted for that. What a loss. My first thought when I read this was what a character. My first memory of Ben Robinson was at a show (either Cranleigh or South of England?) back in the early 80's. My brother and I had accidently and by pure good luck acquired our first dexter heifer who was a ve...

My dexters and shetland sheep have often shared the same field. However, at the moment I have such an evil ram (playful I am told) that I dare not turn him out with the cows. The last time I did he was trying to jump on the cows and what scares me most is if he goes head to head with our friendly, ...
