Re: Ear Tags
Out of interest - maybe - Your lucky you have a choice of tags - in France, in July we receive a sheet from our local 'DEFRA office' that asks us how many tags we need for the 'cattle year - August to July '- we have to pay for these up front and we receive them a few weeks later. We always order a ...

Re: liver fluke pour-on medication
Your never a nuisance Duncan - I love reading your posts - I think I have confused everyone - all I was saying is Imena L (don't think you can get this is UK ) is Oxyclozanide and levamisole and Zanil is just Oxyclozanide but both ONLY treat adult fluke and adult paraphistome - so we have had to tre...

Re: liver fluke pour-on medication
We have a problem with liver fluke (two types in France) and also paraphistome in our location in France - at housing we take dung samples from all our groups of animals and get the vet to test for all the different parasite types this costs ( £10 per sample). This year we have a heavy Paraphistome ...

Exporting Dexter Semen to France
I thought I would write a note to let other French readers know the problems encountered with importing dexter semen to France. The actual process of buying and exporting the semen is easy, UK Sire Services were faultless , the whole process expensive and time consuming with the extra veterinary cer...

Dexters grazing Peat Bog Areas
I wanted to know if anyone had experience of dexter's grazing or helping in a conservation project in and around a Peat Bog. I have been approached by the our regional departmental group in France who have bough 11.5 hectares of 'Lowland Peat Bog' - the last know peat bog remaining in our department...

Re: Genus Charges
Ann - I would be very interested to know which bulls you have had less success with than others - I am just preparing to invest in buying semen from Elmgrove Millenium and Stargate Sorceror to export to France - this is a considerable cost to me and obviously would like to give my cows the best chan...

Exporting Dexter Semen
I would like some help please in exporting semen to France - I have had some good advice and help from UK Sire Services but they only have semen from a few bulls available for export. I have contacted Genus as well who have been very unhelpful and basically told me I needed to contact breeders direc...

Re: The problems in France
I totally agree with you Chrissie - my view is, as long as I am selling a 'true' dexter that meets the UK breed standards, even if the purchaser doesn't want to register them, they have an animal that will show and publicise the image of a true dexter which is what we need in France. There are too m...

Re: Minstry Inspection
I thought you might like to hear the story from France - we had an inspection last year - we were given two days notice for the equivalent of DEFRA ,to come out and inspect all the cattle tags, sheep tags, movement registrations. Inspections vary from department to department as each department has ...

Alternative uses for Dexter Bulls !
As some of you know I have established a small herd of pedigree dexter cattle in central France - small being 8 females and two bulls ! Any excess animals are sold as yearlings or in calf heifers. Today I have had my first enquiry of a different nature - a dairy herd looking for a short legged dexte...
