O.K. TB is pretty scary stuff especially when you are in a one year testing area. Is there a standard charge for compensation for various animals and does anyone know what these prices would be . I would just like to add to anyone who has lost any cattle that i am very sorry.

Every time i go to make hay either the the weather is not quite right or i have the smallholders problem that the contractors want to do larger fields of local dairy farmers. I'm seriously considering setting myself up to do my own but hey ho the cost! It would definately help if i had a larger tra...

I am debating at the moment whether it would be prudent to go farm assured but being a smallholder find the financial returns difficult to justify. As dexter breeders seem to be a diverse bunch of educated farmers, smallholders and animal lovers can anyone give guidance on if they have registered a...

The problem with that clive is that when i used to milk very often a cow would cough and make that noise at the same time. if the bull or cow made the noise, you could easily end up with a false reading. ha ha! :D

Can anyone give me advice about keeping a bull in a field with a public footpath that never gets used.

I believe there are different rules for dairy and beef bulls. What is the duel purpose Dexter classed as.

Your comments will be gratefully recieved.

You have all raised some interesting points and idea's and i will keep a eye on this posting to see what happens. Back in the 80's we always weaned the calves at 4 days old but then the mothers were friesian milking cows. However once they had finished bucket feeding i reared the heifers as followe...

Well folks, i've had the soil test results back. PH is 5.0 so under advice i've applied 4cwt(200kg) of calciprill . the Phosphorus was low at 13 with a guideline of 26 so ive applied 2 cwt per acre of 21: 8:11. I will soil test again next year to see if this has improved the values. Thankyou ...
