Hi We've also been having problems with New Forest Eye, the heifer's and heifer calves seemed particulalry vulnerable. Nature's a wonderful thing! I know more about deer and they can reabsorb the foetus if under stress during the early winter, but this is only at an early stage of development. They will then pass a tidy parcel of the bits they couldn't absorb without any apparent problem, self preservation I guess....

Are Dexter's prone to staggers? In what situation would you advise providing magnesium licks, or don't you find they're really necessary. Our vet suggested we should provide licks in the autumn when we took delivery of our cattle a year ago because of the risks with the autumn flush of grass, but t...

Hi, The crush we purchased has an IAE Saracen yoke, with a locally built box. It's similar to the older style crush, not as complicated as those being sold for continential cattle and it's worked well enough so far. Like you we have larger beef type Dexters, including a bull with horns.

Can those of you with more experience than us novices suggest whether it's the breeding bull or bull calves that are the cause of the problem? One of our bull calves, born in early April, trails the bull when he's trailing round after a bulling cow. Presumably if the heifer calf is sexually mature ...

Does anyone have a cure for warts? We've a heifer growing one on her shoulder, I know it will drop off eventually but if we could treat her with something that would speed that up, or at least stop the wart spreading, either on her or onto her mates it would be good. Thanks.
