Re: D. C. S. Council Criticism

Breed societies all have politics going on behind the scenes that threaten their future, it has nothing to do with the breed as even the most commercial livestock breeds have been there. It usually requires someone with a real passion for both the breed and managing people to bang some heads togeth...

Re: D. C. S. Council Criticism

I suggest that the three gentlemen who have raised their concerns & criticised the current council are well respected intelligent individuals and would not be voicing their opinions so vehemently without very good reason. Yes the council members do give their services voluntarily & freely an...

Re: Changes to Showing Rules

Returning to Ann's comment that shows in the north need support, over 20 Dexters were forward at Cumberland show on Saturday. One herd that had entered wasn't forward, or there would have been more Dexters than went to Great Harwood. Yes Louisa I agree totally all of the shows need as much support ...

Re: Fertility in calves

I would suggest that you should be concerned about and doing something about it now, bull calves can become fertile at 5 or 6 months ! A while ago I had a bunch of Hereford & Angus cross heifers which miraculously got in calf a couple of months before they were put to the Hereford bull and the o...

Re: Changes to Showing Rules

Peter, as there has been no reply to my previous comment from Mark I contacted the DCS directly for clarification and the reply was categorical - It is a rule not guideline and the member is to have officially owned the animal for 3 months prior to entry - NOT JUST FOR THE POINTS BUT TO SHOW THE ANI...

Re: Changes to Showing Rules

The rule is only for DCS show points, nothing else. So to clarify then Mark the "Rules" as published on the Society website are only for DCS show points, then if one is not interested in points - so therefore disregard rule #1, then it is also ok to disregard rule #2 and show a non pedigr...

Re: 2014 show results

I see that the royal Berkshire Show have amended their results on the Dexter section, there are a lot of spaces in the classes and we don't seem to have had a Reserve Champion or Junior female Champion anymore ???? Oh or have the Royal Berkshire Show got more balls than the DCS council and sorted th...

Re: 2014 show results

Rob I have not really given much thought to the actual added value per animal as this would be very difficult to gauge, although it obviously had a massive affect on the prices achieved by the Knightsway herd at their dispersal sale ! My comment was more that it gives potential buyers the opportunit...

Carol Ann

I am definitely not taking anything out on you, I am merely responding to comments that you have made on here and expressing my opinions on these.

Re: 2014 show results

Carol Ann how would you (as a Judge yourself) view it if the "calf" you just placed 3rd in the calf under 12 months class later turned out to be well over 13 months old and the heifer which you placed 1st in the heifer under 18 months old class turned out to be actually 21 months old ? or ...

Re: 2014 show results

Carol Ann I have not heard anybody from the Society mention cheating, I however have found numerous amounts of blatant cheating simply by checking the results published online by shows and checking against the animals details on the DCS online herdbook ! I merely said there should be better ways of ...

Re: identification of cattle at show

Yes the shows are responsible for checking the identification of animals & that the passports correspond with the animals taken, which some shows do very thoroughly also physically checking that all eartags are present & fitted and so they should too - as (Carol Ann) it is a CRIMAL OFFENCE t...

Re: 2014 show results

Carol Ann I am a bit confused by your reply to my comment ??? You suggest that the society are carrying out actions that are way over the top & that a member is being victimised - do you therefore know more than you are saying on here ? Also you seem to be trying to suggest that a member has bee...

Re: 2014 show results

What ever is happening about announcing the showing results for 2014 ? Mark Bowles your response from over a month ago has now worn rather thin as surely the Society have had more than enough time to do their investigations and come to a decision ! Also Carol Ann your comment about picking on a memb...

Re: Kicking Cows!

Tim that was absolutely disgraceful behaviour by an exhibitor at a show, you should name & shame or even better report / complain about their behaviour to the Dexter Society who I'm sure will take a very dim view of this and take appropriate action.
