That seemed to work. Here's another from February 2015. They didn't eat the snowdrops, just sniffed them...

That is a good question - I was trying to work this out last night but I don't really know. It depends what you call a 'Dexter' as there's about 10 un-registered/crossbred ones, and a few other breeds. I think about 50 cows gone to the bull this year in total and 30 calves born in the last 12 months. I haven't worked out the sex ratios so far this autumn but we seem to have had a lot of heifers.

They just managed to graze the lower fields before the floodwater came up, a combination of the effects of a few more heifers, amalgamating the bulling groups to make a bigger herd after I took the bulls out and a better grazing plan this time. Dexters are the ideal breed for wetlands though, much better than those big clumpy breeds.

I decided to do a count up on the back of this and it turns out that there are 40 cows & first calvers, seven of them are either crossbred or unregistered. According to BCMS though I have 41 which includes one that I neither have nor registered as an on movement, so I'll have to get that sorted, thanks!

The calf ratio this year has been 37% male, 63% female.

He looks gorgeous Jac...and has a very relaxed appearance as well? Can we see the rest of him, how old is he, what are your plans for him?
