IT IS HOT!!!

Post by Saffy »

How are you and your Dexters coping? Any young calves stressed?

Just baled a small field of small bales and a slightly bigger one of big bales of hay....this heat has some advantages but hauling won't be fun...

Well 37 degrees here in, the Allier (dept 03) France today , four weeks ago we were complaining because the stream next to our house had flooded over again, and hay and silage making was a distant dream , the rainfall up to the end of June had exceeded the total for the whole of 2015.

AND then the sun came out and it has not stopped since 55 hectare of hay and silage nearly finished, just got to haul it all in now . The stream is now dry and the temperatures this week are just too hot - dexters eat at night and lay in the shade next to the water trough in the day and battle with the flies . Young calves seem fine but I make sure they have buckets of water next to the water trough all the time , as they cant reach into the trough ! Dehorning impossible they will have to wait !
